Volunteer

Any non-profit organization is only as good as its volunteers. The Mountain Shelter and Thrift Stores are always looking for enthusiastic animal lovers willing to work for the cause - the animals. If you would like to volunteer your time, click here for our easy on-line application. You may also contact the Shelter at (706) 781-3843 or stop by during our hours of operation.

There are many ways to volunteer including:

Shelter Work - "hands-on" work with the animals, like cleaning, loving, feeding, loving, walking, bathing, loving, petting. Your time can also be spent helping to answer the phone and other duties.

Cat & Dog

Thrift Stores - The stores are run by a few employees and a lot of volunteer help under the direction of Tricia Spear, Store Manager.

Fundraisers - Fundraisers are a very important part of our organization as we survive on donations and fundraising. To this end we will hold special events throughout the year to help raise the money needed to support operational expenses, day to day supplies, spay/neuter program, medicine, food and much more! For fundraiser dates, see "Calendar Events." We would love to have you volunteer your time for one of our events, if interested please contact the Shelter at (706) 781-3843..

Adoption Days - Dogs and Cats from the shelter are taken to off-site locations for viewing and adoption. Adoption Days usually occur on Saturdays, but you can find us throughout the year at various locations, weather permitting.

Cat & Dog

Foster Parents - Pet lovers temporarily share their homes to provide care and prevent animal euthanization. A program has been designed to ensure our foster parents are matched for personality with our dogs and cats.

Pet Sponsorship Program - Not ready or able to adopt or foster? Do the next best thing and help sponsor a dog or a cat. This successful program has resulted in finding loving homes for many hard to place or special needs animals. Sponsorship is a one-time fee of $50 which reduces the cost of the adoption. This helps HSMS recoup monies spent to treat and care for the animals and gives a potential adoptive parent a break on the adoption fee. Many seniors take advantage of sponsored pet adoptions.
